Event:  Big Mound completely demolished

Brief Description:  The largest of the precolumbian Indian mounds in St. Louis, and the one that gave the city its nickname of "Mound City," was completely demolished in 1869. Parts of the mound had been demolished earlier to make way for streets and other structures.
