Event: First Turnverein is Organized Category: Cultural Life, Demographics (immigration, etc.), Politics and Government Brief Description: The first "Turnverein," a German-American social club, was organized in 8150. The Turnverein society was dedicated to encouraging healthy minds and bodies and the promotion of social legislation. Turnvereins offered cultural and athletic classes, and were found in most neighborhoods of St. Louis by the turn of the nineteenth century.
