  Shaw Donates Tower Grove Park

Brief Description:  Henry Shaw donated 190 acres to the City in 1868 to create Tower Grove Park. The land was near his botanical gardens and had previously been part of the old Prairie des Noyes common fields. Shaw agreed to plant thousands of tress and shrubs in the park and the City agreed to appropriate $360,000 for park improvements. (Primm, 306)
