  Henry Shaw dies

Brief Description:  Henry Shaw was one of the wealthiest people in St. Louis during the 19th century. Upon his retirement, he used his time to develop a botanical garden in St. Louis modeled after the world-famous Kew Garden in England. He also donated Tower Grove Park to the city. Upon his death in 1889, his will endowed the Missouri Botanical Garden as a public institution.
