Event:  Americans start arriving on Mississipi´s east bank

Brief Description:  Americans start arriving on the east bank of the Mississippi in large numbers after the American Revolution. French residents of St. Louis start referring to the east side of the river as the "American Bottoms." St. Louis´ population increases as French families flee the chaos on the American side of the river.
