Fleet Maintenance Technician III

Salary

  • Minimum: $41,808.00
  • Maximum: $57,902.00
  • Normal entry salary is $41,808.

Nature of Work

This is skilled work in diagnosing, repairing, overhauling, and maintaining all components of both diesel and gasoline engine driven heavy trucks, construction equipment, and complex hydraulic and pneumatic equipment. Duties include making service road calls and the ability to perform emergency repairs in the field; some ordering of supplies and parts, skill in performing gas and electric welding, and completing various equipment maintenance records accurately.

Minimum Qualifications

At least three years of recent full-time paid experience diagnosing, repairing and maintaining heavy trucks (over 25,000 lb. GVW) or comparable heavy equipment and/or construction equipment, automobiles, and landscaping equipment.

OR Graduation from a recognized apprenticeship program, trade school, or junior college program in the repair and maintenance of heavy trucks and/or construction equipment, AND successful completion of two Automotive Service of Excellence (A.S.E.) tests in Automotive or Medium/Heavy Truck Technology.

OR Possession of a current Master Automotive Service of Excellence (A.S.E.) certificate in heavy truck and/or construction equipment repair or maintenance, AND at least two years experience as a journeyman technician.

Official proof of qualifying educational achievement and A.S.E. certifications must be submitted with the application or at the time of the Oral Interview. Employees must furnish their own set of hand tools.

License: Must possess a valid driver's license at the time of filing the employment application. Please note kind of license, number, class and expiration date on the employment application. Applicants who do not possess a Missouri driver's license will be required to present, at the time of the Oral Interview, a "Driving Record Check" from their state's Department of Motor Vehicles.

Commercial Driver's License: Possession of a Commercial Driver's License (Class B) Permit at the time of the hiring interview and possession of a current Commercial Driver's License (Class B) by the completion of the working test period. Some positions may require additional CDL endorsements. Must possess and maintain valid Missouri Commercial Driver's License (Class B) while employed by the City of St. Louis.
